Discover the Szeged Synagogue with us
The Foundation for the Synagogue of Szeged was established in 1993, founded by Péter F. Váradi, a scientist and industrialist who emigrated to the United States of America. Its goal is to maintain the New Synagogue, designed by Lipót Baumhorn, which has been in a dilapidated state for generations, to preserve its cultural heritage, and to organize religious, cultural, tourist, educational and other events. The New Synagogue's tourist and cultural activities include organizing various programs throughout the year, taking into account religious requirements. These programs include concerts, book launches, writer-reader meetings, organ presentations, exhibitions and garden presentations, and interfaith discussions, which are held within the framework of the annual Szeged Jewish Cultural Festival.
Among our regular and returning performers are the Szeged Symphony Orchestra, Gergely Rákász, the Docpiano Band, Mariann Falusi, the organ students, teachers and graduates of the Béla Bartók Faculty of Arts of the University of Szeged. We provide space for Jewish-themed exhibitions and cooperate with the Archives of the Szeged Jewish Community. The Foundation takes care of the unique garden surrounding the synagogue, which was designed based on the plans of the former Chief Rabbi of Szeged, Immánuel Löw.
